Stores for fabric lovers in London UK

While the nation is focused on the arrival of the Royal Baby, I focused on fabric stores instead. Bon voyage Baby!
First stop - it just happened- on a very rainy and cold day at Cath Kidston on 28 Shelton St. She is the
" Queen of polka dots" and offers homeware , clothing and matching modern/vintage fabrics in quilting weight and canvas. Lots of ribbons, pin cushions and bags. You will leave the store with something your heart desires.

On a Saturday I took the Tube out to Columbia Road. Vintage stores, cafes, unique gift stores, things for the garden, and galleries. One of my favourite shop was J&B. Most of the shops open only around noon. (lazy quilters!)
On the way to " Beyond Fabrics " I had to take this photo......

Beyondfabrics is located on 67 Columbia Rd.

I recognized lots of the same prints I can buy at home, and the trip did not make a big dent in my wallet.
That changed when I walked to Broadway Market. A twenty minute walk to experience the hussle and bussle of the Saturday market. Here you find vintage dresses gallore, organic food cooking, the flower market and  Our Patterned Hand.
Just the kind of store I love, very friendly staff, dress patterns, beautiful ribbons, books, fabric for clothes making, last season's Liberty fabric (well priced), and haberdashery.

By now my exhausted friends, who are not yet converted to sewing, still had to visit the stunning tudor building, Liberty House. ( sale on now!)

Arriving on the 3rd floor the Heaven of Liberty fabric and Rowan wools.
I just wanted to have a yard cut - it was impossible. The two cutting tables and cash registers were occupied by a very wealthy shopper. So I opted for a pre-cut bundle.

The last store was Ray-Stitch in Islington.
Visit the Camden Passage with their thrift and vintage stores and Loop the yarn store. Ray-Stitch is a 10 minute walk from Loop and is a must to visit. Getting tired by now, they offer the best expresso to start shopping now: Liberty, Japanese fabric and Haberdashery.

Ray-Stitch 99 Essex Road
