Harvest

Driving home last night I had to stop my car and took a photo of the sunset of this harvested wheat field. Ontario has weeks of sunshine. I hope that Europe is getting our weather for the Olympics.

Happiness is the harvest of a quiet eye.

A weekend trip across the border ( part2)

Since I have a problem uploading several photos I split the post in 2 parts.

The fun continues at Fidlers..... trying on the Elvis mask.

This family-owned store where you step back in time has it's own slogan:
if Vidler's doesn't have it, maybe you never really needed it to begin with!

Stops on the way we saw this and that...

and bought that...

and dropped in some quilt shops (of course!)

.. and finished our trip exhausted in the Village of Jordan with a late lunch.

After doing the trip 3 times, we agreed that we could be the girl tour guide for the best kept secrets for antique shopping and quilt shops.

A weekend trip across the border ( part1)

Girls having fun - you don't have to ask twice!  After 3 years it becomes a ritual that my friend Nancy and I are celebrating our birthdays with a trip to the rural area outside of Buffalo, NY. We both love yard sales , antique shops with curiosities and admiring the old american architecture.
Packed with lunch, cameras and  great driving instructions done by Nancy ( she is the navigator) we left Toronto early morning to make our first stop in East Aurora which is 25 miles outside of Buffalo.

East Aurora, famous for the Roycroft Art and Crafts, the largest toy manufacturers in the world and where the Fisher-Price toy all started. This small town had it all, nice cafes, antique shops,

 a cross stitch store, a quilt shop and the  five and dime store Vidlers.

We had a blast at Vidlers and this is a must to visit this unique store.

The annual pilgrimage to the country

Nothing less to expect on a fantastic long weekend in Ontario driving bumper to bumper up north. A true exodus of the city slickers. 

Invitation to barbecues and tasting homemade wine, meeting new people and having our son drop in with their friends made the weekend special.

Having said that I really wanted to finish my shadow star quilt. I took a class at Country Concessions in Cookstown to learn the technique with the Deb Tucker ruler to make the perfect flying geese.

One of the girls came with her sewing machine strapped to her Harley Davidson bike. That's dedication!

This vibrant quilt top against the barn stone foundation makes my heart jump. I used Kona for the background, Anna Marie Horner, Alexander Henry fly screen ( can't have enough of it) and Lilly Belle by Barie Ackerman.

In one of the wall openings I have a buddha sitting. I think the mood with the sunlight speaks for itself.

You can have a better quilting weekend than this!
