through the rabbit hole.......

It was just like ALICE looking through the hole .
Mine was simple but so effective - no photoshop!

I cut a frosted plastic sheet, punched a hole in the middle and
held it in front of the camera. The results were amazing.

This is one of my favorites.

the apprentice

I took a photo of a barn with a corn field. I ask Nancy to come up with a vintage look and to add a moon to the landscape. Nancy is my photoshop coach and she has been a enormous help . The second from the top is my version. I applied different layers but followed  Nancy's  (third) with a script layer, vintage frame and a moon. Still lots to learn! I just love the red tones in the last photo.

summer is over, can't wait to pick apples

I loved every hot and sunny day this summer. Fall starts for me with a drive to an apple orchard this weekend.

dog meets stranger on the beach

I made a habit to carry my small Lumix everywhere. I believe working with your own images gives a meaning to a painting. Here is a photo I took in Jamaica, a dog came out of nowhere while I was walking on the beach. He was not easy to photograph . First I was not happy to get the real "doggy shot" but later I realized working with the unusual position made the story in the painting.  I found that working from your photos is a good exercise for journaling.  The painting was done in acrylic and I used my favorite "All-Stabilo Pencil" from Dick Blick.

weekend event quilting

On Friday I took a quilting class up north. I do like to learn the different techniques how to cut fabric to achieve  a certain visual look.

weekend event bike race

This event was held in Lake Simcoe . We started our ski season for our teenage racers with a barbeque and a bike race at the lake. Felix how loves racing came in first. Well done. Then we packed up to see the end of the Mono festival in Hockley Valley .

weekend events Baby shower

I had a nightshift to sew a babyquilt and a little guy for "baby November". Seelen and Alex are expecting their first child. Congratulations! The absolutely cute fabric I bought in Niagara-on-the-Lake at BEE .

Do you remember....

Do you remember thirty years ago your waistline ? I remember that I was madly in love and I lived of a Granny Smith apple the whole day.  No problem with my waist . Not anymore these days when I just look at a piece of pastry and I could gain one pound. I have a German background and my DNA is made out of carbs. Vintage dress sizes tell a lot how sensible people ate. Last night I watched our male candidates running for major. I am truly worried for there health.  What do I do...I go for early walks and get the best ideas for my art.

blown away

This post I dedicate to my friend Nancy   . She sat patiently for hours with me at my computer to understand the magic of photoshop. I admired lots of my avid and talented friends making their blogs interesting with a tweak of photoshop. So this summer I decided to learn something new . There is lots to learn and Nancy ask me " when can I put you on the air ?" Not yet is my answer. It's the fear of gadgets they offer a blogger. I haven't even done my profile. I think that's me doing everything ass-backwards, like reading a magazine from the end forward. So last night I took a photo from a flea market in Clarence and began layering........

a nifty tool

During the workshop I was sitting next to Ethelwyn, a porcelain artist. She brought in a reducing magnifying glass . It shrinks down the object to see the composition of your piece. What a handy tool to have but not easy to find. If anybody has an idea where to purchase it let me know .
