Foodstock

This past Sunday my husband and I drove to the township of Melancthon, Ontario to join 28.000 people to show solidarity with the movement to Stop the Mega Quarry. For people who are not so familiar with this project here are the facts what's happening in the country. The Highland Companies backed by a multi million dollar Boston hedge fund purchased 700 acres of farmland used for centuries to  supply potatoes . They approached aging farmers to sell their land for an over the market value price to continue farming, only to see their farm dozed and drill holes made to transform the land into one of the largest lime quarry in the country.
The absolutely scary fact is to extract lime you need 6 million litres of water daily!!!!
Michael Stadtlander, a chef and environmentalist was joined with 100 canadian chefs to fight against the proposed quarry and cooked up a storm .

This is how the traffic looked when I left. I am glad that so many people care what's happening with our land.
